Privacy Policy

ExpeditionSpot is an app for planning and running river trips, on iPhone, Android and the web at expeditionspot.com. It is published by Clay Crosland ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information ExpeditionSpot collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.

The short version: we collect what the app needs to work (your account, the trips you plan and record, what you choose to post), we never sell your information, we show no ads, and you can delete your account and your data at any time.

Information you give us

• Account. When you sign in with Apple, Google or an email link, we receive your name, email address and, if your provider shares one, your profile picture. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive an Apple relay address instead.
• Trips and crews. Trip names, rivers, dates, gear lists, to-dos, shuttle notes and shared expenses you enter, and the email addresses of people you invite to a trip. We use an invitee's address only to send that invitation.
• What you record. When you record a trip, the route (GPS positions over time), the distance and times, and the photos, videos and notes you pin to it.
• What you post. Posts, photos, videos, reactions and votes in river rooms, and suggested edits to the river guides, together with your name and picture as their author.
• Messages to us. What you send when you contact support.

Information collected as you use the app

• Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's location to show you on the map and to answer questions such as how far the next rapid is. While you are recording a trip it continues to use location in the background, so the route keeps recording with the screen off; it stops when you stop recording. Your location is stored only as part of trips you record.
• Voice. If you turn on voice questions, the microphone is used to recognize a small set of spoken questions. Recognition runs on your device; audio is not recorded, stored or sent to us.
• Photos and camera. Only the photos and videos you choose, or take in the app, are read and uploaded.
• Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can send hazard and agency notices for your rivers, trip invitations and similar alerts.
• Technical data. Our servers keep routine logs (IP address, request times, app version, errors) to operate, secure and fix the service. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

How we use information

• To provide the app: your account, your trips and recordings, maps, river guides, weather, and the features you use.
• To share what you choose to share, with the people you choose (see below).
• To send notifications and emails you asked for, such as invitations and river notices.
• To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, enforcing our Terms of Use, moderating river rooms, and responding to reports.
• To operate, maintain and improve the service.

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

What other people can see

• Your crew sees the trips you plan together, including your name, picture and what you add to the trip.
• Everyone using ExpeditionSpot can see what you post in river rooms, your suggested guide edits (credited with your name and picture), trips you make public (with first names and pictures of crew members who have not hidden themselves), and recorded trips you share to a river, including their photos, videos and the river level at the time.
• Your email address is never shown to other people.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run ExpeditionSpot. They process information only on our behalf:

• Google Cloud and Firebase (Google LLC): hosting of our servers, database and files, sign-in (Firebase Authentication), the website (Firebase Hosting) and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
• Apple: Sign in with Apple and notifications to iPhones.
• An email delivery provider, to send invitations and account emails.

To show river levels, weather and agency notices, the app requests public data (for example from the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Weather Service, Recreation.gov and land-management agencies) for a river's location. Those requests are about rivers, not about you.

Legal reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of any person, to address fraud or security problems, or to protect our rights. If ExpeditionSpot is transferred to a new owner, your information would transfer with it under this policy.

Accounts from Converge

ExpeditionSpot is by the same publisher as Converge. If you had a Converge account, your basic account details (name, email address and profile picture) may have been carried over so that you can sign in to ExpeditionSpot with the same Google account or email address. No messages, rooms or other Converge content were carried over. You can delete the ExpeditionSpot account at any time as described below.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete individual trips, recordings, photos and posts in the app, and you can delete your whole account in the app (Settings, then Delete account) or by following the steps on our account deletion page. When you delete your account we delete your personal information and content from our systems within 30 days, except that encrypted backups are kept for up to 60 days before they expire, and we may keep what the law requires us to keep. Suggested guide edits that were accepted into a river guide stay in the guide without your name.

Your choices and rights

• You can turn off location, microphone, photo and notification access in your device settings at any time; the features that need them will stop working.
• You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it by writing to clay@lootsnap.com. Depending on where you live (for example in California or the European Economic Area) you may have additional rights, and we honor them.

Children

ExpeditionSpot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security and where data is kept

Information is encrypted in transit, and access to our systems is limited to what is needed to run the service. Our servers are in the United States; by using ExpeditionSpot you understand your information is processed there.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect.
